Who is David Mount? And why should you listen to him?
That's a valid question. It's actually one that I think more people should ask when they are searching for a piano teacher or musician. I began teaching piano lessons in 1986. And since then I have taught well over 29,000 lessons. That's right. Twenty-Nine-Thousand Lessons! Some of my students are now music teachers themselves. I always love to hear those stories. I grew up with a love for the instrument and always found myself either practicing or playing for fun in my spare time. When I was 12 years old, I started playing the piano at weddings. I even had business cards made up at age 12 for playing piano at weddings. At age 13, I gave my first piano lesson and I was hooked. I had a small motorcycle that I would ride around to people's houses giving piano lessons. At age 14, I began playing piano for the choirs at my high school. That turned into a love for accompanying that I still have to this day. I continued to teach piano lessons while in high school at a couple of the local music stores. Then after high school I received a music scholarship to a University, where, (you guessed it) I majored in piano.
(3rd Album: Unexpected Journey)
I have had numerous experiences playing in a multitude of situations...from being a guest organist at Dodger Stadium, to playing piano at a private party at Liberace's house, to playing in bands, to music directing entire casts, to conducting, to being an adjudicator, to traveling the country and accompanying some of the best musicians and singers in the world with over 1,300 live performances to date. I love what I do and I am passionate about it!
Some of the other work I have done has included working with concert choirs, jazz-choirs, jazz-bands, show-choirs, combos, wind ensembles, as well as playing numerous concerts, competitions, churches, community events, musical theatre productions, recording studios/sessions, radio, TV, Live auditions (one of my favorites), rehearsals, vocal soloists, instrumentalists, Elementary schools, Middle schools, High schools, Colleges, etc.
Point being, I have real-life experience when it comes to music and I know what works and what doesn't. Choosing a teacher or musician based on anything else can usually be less than what you were hoping for. So, that's me in a nut shell. Down to earth, real-life-experience-driven musician and teacher.
